There are a number of ways to get around the City of Tshwane: buses, trains and taxis.

Transport can generally be arranged through your hotel or guest house. Many visitors use private taxis and tour companies that are safe and reliable.

Car hire companies are situated at OR Tambo International Airport, with offices based in the CBD.

Public transport

Gautrain

The Gautrain links Johannesburg and OR Tambo International Airport to a number of stops in the City of Tshwane: Centurion, Pretoria and Hatfield.

Trains run at frequent, and regular, intervals throughout the day and there are bus services from the stations to get you to your destination in the City of Tshwane’s CBD and surrounds.

You will need to buy a Gold Card for use on the buses and trains. These can be purchased at any station and must have a minimum of R20 loaded onto them for passengers wanting to use the buses.

The cost of a trip depends on the distance between your two stations.

A Re Yeng Bus Rapid Transit system

Look out for the unique lilac and green buses of the City of Tshwane’s BRT system, A Re Yeng.

With buses using dedicated lanes and stops to get passengers across the city rapidly, and safely, A Re Yeng buses run from 6am to 8pm.

The main trunk routes, from the CBD to Hatfield, have buses every seven minutes during peak time and every 10 minutes in off-peak hours during the week. The route runs from the Central Station in the CBD to General M Soyothula Station in Hatfield.

Service run from 6am to 11.53pm on Saturdays, with 10-minute frequencies during peak hours and 20-minute frequencies during off-peak hours.

Sunday services operate from 6am to 7pm at 30-minute intervals.

There are also feeder services that use mixed traffic lanes and then join up with the trunk route.

You will need to buy a connector card to hop on and off these buses.
